Victorian Flower Flavoured Breath Sweetener
Cachous (Candies) in Collectible Tins

Travel with me back to the Victorian era when men were gentlemen and women were ladies. Instead of chewing gum or gargling, women would sweeten their breath with little flower flavoured candies called cachous.

We are pleased to be able to offer these delightful little tins filled with flower flavored candies, imported from England, at a very affordable price. When the candies are gone you can use the collectible tins for pills, earrings, buttons or other little items. They are small enough to fit in your purse or in your pocket. You will feel very classy when you pull out the beautifully decorated tin to enjoy a few candies. Be sure to order several tins because all your friends will want to sample them.

We have three flower flavors we think you'll enjoy: Lavender Bouquet, English Rose and Victorian Violet. We also have a small number of custom-ordered Jasmine. They will not last long. If you are interested in Jasmine, please email us to be sure they are still in stock.

[picture] [picture] The genus viola contains about 100 species. The name Viola is the Latin form of the Greek name Ione, from the legend of Jupiter (he supposedly changed into a white heifer for fear of Juno's jealousy causing these little flowers to spring forth for her to eat). Another derivation is said to be from vias, meaning 'wayside'. Violet is very soothing and can be placed in a pillow to eases headaches. It can also be worn as a garland around the head to dispell fumes and prevent headaches and dizziness. It is used as an antiseptic, diuretic, expectorant, laxative, and to ease inflammation. This flower that tastes like sweet nectar is used to flavour salads and desserts.

[picture] [picture] The word rosa comes from the Greek word rodon (red), and was of a deep crimson colour, which probably suggested the fable of its springing from the blood of Adonis. As the rose became known, it was not only the theme of poets, but gave rise to many legends. It was once the custom to suspend a rose over the dinner table as a sign that all confidences were to be held sacred. The essential oil making up the perfume of the Rose is found in both flowers and leaves. The petals are the chief secreting part of the blossom. Rose petals may be consumed in salads, used to flavor butter, and in many recipes (e.g. rose petal ice cream, sauce, jam). More than 10,000 roses are known in cultivation today.

[picture] [picture] Lavender is derived from the Latin word "lavare" which means "to wash" and that is just what the Romans did with lavender. Lavandula officinale or Lavandula vera is a purple colored perennial. Lavender blooms year after year, always faithful. Its light green tincture can be used to attract love or produce sleep and peace. Not only does Lavender have a wonderful fragrance, but it also tastes fantastic. Lavender and strawberries, lavender lemonade, lavender and white wine, lavender ice cream. Smells and tastes like summer. Recent studies have indicated that lavender will also relieve stress and headaches.
